FW Exclusive Alek Manoah Shines in MLB All-Star Debut
With five representatives at the 2022 MLB All-Star Game in Los Angeles, Toronto's top players were heavily featured in the midsummer classic on Tuesday night. While Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Alejandro Kirk got starts for the American League, it was FW Exclusive Alek Manoah who truly seized the spotlight.
Taking part in his first MLB All-Star Game, the Blue Jays right-hander provided one of the most entertaining moments of the night during his dominant second inning for the American League in a 3-2 win. Striking out three of his four batters faced, Manoah became just the second Blue Jay to record at least three strikeouts in an All-Star Game. The first was seven-time All-Star righty Dave Stieb, who struck out four in three innings at Comiskey Park in 1983.
The mic'd up Toronto starter was back-and-forth with the broadcast crew in his ear for his entire inning of work, and his lone error came on a pitch suggestion from commentator John Smoltz—a back-door slider that swung a bit too far in on the NL batter. See below for clips!
Ultimately, it was a successful night for Manoah, the ace of Toronto. With having his big personality on full display and providing a dominant inning of work in his All-Star debut, the spectrum of possibility is what makes the 24-year-old one of the game’s most compelling young all-stars. The Blue Jays will resume regular season action on Fri. July 22 in Boston.
